Sharyl Wielard, 72, of Sioux Center, IA, died Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Sioux Center Health. A visitation with family present will be held on Friday from 10AM - 11AM at the Covenant Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 11AM at Covenant Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Kory Plockmeyer officiating. A graveside committal service will be held Saturday at 2:30PM at the Oak Wood Cemetery in Pella, Iowa. The Wielard family prefer memorials be directed to Sioux Center Health, Sioux Center Home Health & Hospice or World Renew (a mission of the Christian Reformed Church of America). Sharyl Joy Wielard was born on the family farm near Pella, Iowa to Valentine and Berdina (Kolenbrander) Van Rheenen in October of 1942. She grew up on the farm with her brother Verlan. She graduated in 1961 from Pella Community High School. She attended Calvin College, where her future husband Marvin also attended. She married Marvin in Pella in June of 1962 and moved to Miami, Florida where Marvin taught at the Westminster Christian High School. She had two sons, Marc and Paul. She worked as a floral designer, a mortgage processor, and an office manager for Dordt's academic skills center. She finished her degree at Dordt College in art and business after they moved to Sioux Center in 1985. She loved gardening and also kept tropical plants that thrived under her care. She enjoyed art and became an accomplished photographer. Through her lens, she saw and photographed the beauty around her in flowers, birds, farmland, and family. She also painted these subjects and took her black and white photographs and colored them. She and her husband are members of Covenant Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. She enjoyed friendships with the "Walkie-Talkie" club and participated in the Sioux Photo Club. She enjoyed traveling to destinations such as Canada, Europe, Panama Canal, Alaska, Hawaii, South Carolina, Texas, and Arizona. She joined her husband in his enthusiasm for bird watching and also enjoyed cooking good food for her family. She is survived by her husband, Marvin Wielard of Sioux Center; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Dr. Valerie Wielard of Dallas, TX, Marc and Karen Wielard of Columbia, SC and their two daughters: Jennifer and Bonnie Wielard; one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Verlan and Norma Van Rheenen of Kalamazoo, MI. She is preceded in death by her parents, Valentine and Berdina Van Rheenen.
