Ella Overeem

Ella Marie Overeem, 95, of Sioux Center, IA, died Sunday, October 19, 2014, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A funeral service will be held at 10:30AM on Friday at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center with Reverend G.J. Baan officiating. Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. Ella Marie (Schelling) Overeem was born May 14, 1919 to Cornelius and Hattie (Kastein) Schelling on the family farm west of Sioux Center, Iowa. She attended country school through the eighth grade. In 1942, Ella Marie moved into Sioux Center with her father and step-mother. She worked for neighbors doing housekeeping and caring for children. In 1951, she married Gerrit J. Overeem. Ella Marie and Gerrit made their home on acreages near Sioux Center and Maurice, Iowa. The couple was blessed with five daughters. After her daughters were grown, Ella Marie became a CNA and worked for the next 19 years at the Heritage House in Orange City, Pleasant Acres in Hull and the nursing wing in Sioux Center. She retired at age 70, but continued to clean for a neighbor until she was 83 years old. Ella Marie was a life-long member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Sioux Center. She passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center where she had been a resident since September 2011. Ella Marie is survived by her five daughters: Margriet (Loren) Olson of Sioux Center, Henrietta (Fred) Bieri of North Liberty, IA, Janis Van't Foort of Sioux Center, Cornelia (Hans) Overbeek of Tillsonburg, Ontario, Canada and Patty (Kent) Nieuwendorp of Ashton; 17 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ella Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Gerrit in 1988; a son-in-law, Evert Van't Foort; her parents and eleven brothers and sisters.
