Maxine Wright, 93, of Sioux Center, IA, formerly of Laurens, IA, died Monday, October 6, 2014, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, IA. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center, IA. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 9:30AM at the Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center, IA with Rev. R. Van Rathbun officiating. A graveside committal service will be held Friday at 1:30PM at the Laurens Cemetery of Laurens, IA with Rev. James Turner officiating. A time of fellowship will follow the graveside service at the United Methodist Church of Laurens, IA. The Wright family prefers memorials to Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center, IA or the United Methodist Church of Laurens, IA. Maxine Mary (Hixson) Wright was born in Pocahontas County, Iowa on September 3, 1921 to John and Vida (Reese) Hixson. Maxine was raised in Laurens, Iowa, graduating from Laurens High School. She went on to attend the Madame Kennedy School of Cosmetology in Des Moines, Iowa. On June 27, 1942, she married Ray V. "Pat" Wright in Maryville, Missouri. Maxine and Pat made their home in Wall Lake, Iowa where she worked as a beautician. They were living in Waterloo, Iowa, when Pat was drafted into the US Army during WWII. The couple later settled in Laurens, Iowa, where Maxine served as a church custodian for 21 years and was employed at Unruh Furniture for 17 years. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Laurens and was very involved in United Methodist Women. Throughout her life Maxine enjoyed traveling, fishing, sporting events, mentoring young people, and playing cards with friends. She especially enjoyed time spent with her family. In 2002, Maxine and Pat relocated to Sioux Center, Iowa to live closer to their sons and their families. They were residents of Crown Pointe Retirement Community and recently became residents of Royale Meadows Care Center. They faithfully attended Central Reformed Church until they were no longer able. Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Pat Wright of Sioux Center; two sons and daughters-in-law: Dennis and Pat Wright of Hull and Bruce and Pam Wright of Rock Valley; her four grandchildren: Jeff (Ann) Wright of Sergeant Bluff, Michelle (Dean) Eichmann of Rock Valley, Chris (Kristi) Wright of Rock Rapids, and Jay (Christy) Wright of Sioux City; ten great grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Jeane Hixson of Pella, IA. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, John and Vida Hixson; a brother, Will Hixson and two sisters and their husbands, Esther & Pirl Woodin and Betty & Jim Spencer.
