Ted Feekes, 91, formerly of Rock Valley, IA died Monday, September 22, 2014, at Fellowship Village Care Center in Inwood, IA. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Saturday at 9:45AM at the Carmel Reformed Church of rural Rock Valley. Interment will follow the prayer service in Carmel Cemetery of rural Rock Valley. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10:30AM at Carmel Reformed Church of rural Rock Valley, with Rev. Derek Vande Slunt officiating. The Feekes family prefers memorials to American Diabetes Association or Sanford Hospice of Lyon County. Theodore W. Feekes was born September 19, 1923 at the home of his parents, William and Cornelia Feekes, one mile north of Carmel, Iowa. He attended Plato #6 country school in Carmel through the eighth grade. On December 7, 1944, Ted was united in marriage to Nina Meendering. Shortly after their marriage, Ted joined the United States Army, serving from January 1945 - November 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. He returned home to Iowa, where Ted and Nina farmed the family farm north of Carmel. Nina preceded Ted in death on October 22, 1971 at the age of 47 ending their marriage of 27 years. Ted married Sandra Faye Crockett on June 9, 1973. They lived near Carmel and Boyden. Their marriage ended after 7 years. Over the years, Ted lived in Colorado and North Dakota before returning to Iowa. Throughout Ted's early adult life he was an active member of Carmel Reformed Church. Survivors include: Ted and Nina's children: Peggy J. and Roger D. Almond of Lennox, SD, Bob A. and Arlene A. Feekes of Orange City, IA, Donna M. and Tim T. Mueller of Grantsville, UT; Ted and Sandra's children: Lee A. Feekes of Austin, TX and Nathan T. and Heather M. Feekes of Inwood, IA; grandchildren: Mike and Pam Plasier, Terri Schemmel, Susan Pavlik, Dale and Lynette Almond, Michelle and Glen Bomgaars, Beth and Edward Herbst, Jeff Boote, Jamie and Dawn Boote, Jeni Mueller, John and Stephanie Mueller, Evan, Sara and Landon Feekes; numerous great grandchildren; step grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters: Nellie Vander Vliet of Rock Valley, Edna Van Abbema of Rock Valley and Mina Mouw of Sioux Center; a brother-in-law: Pete Moerman of Rock Valley and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina; an infant son, Jeffrey Wayne; his parents; a brother, John Feekes and sister, Catherine Moerman.
