Wayne Dykshorn, 72, of Sioux Center, IA died Friday, August 8, 2014, at his Sioux Center residence. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8, with the family present from 5-8PM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Thursday at 10:00AM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11:00AM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Travis Else officiating. The Dykshorn family prefers memorials to Village Northwest of Sheldon or Words of Hope Ministries. Wayne Edward Dykshorn was born Nov. 6, 1941 to Edward and Margaret (Kuiken) Dykshorn at Sioux Center, lowa. He was raised near Ireton, lowa on a dairy farm. He attended country school at Center #6 through the 8th grade and graduated from high school in Sioux Center in 1959. Following graduation he joined the US Navy and served aboard the destroyer, the Douglas H Fox from 1961-1963. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. He married Jeanne Vande Berg on September 8, 1962; they made their home in Norfolk, Virginia while Wayne was stationed there. Following his honorable discharge, they returned to make their home on the Ireton farm and semi-retired to Sioux Center 5 years ago. Wayne loved the farm and dairy cattle. He still enjoyed doing the windrowing and packing silage in the Fall. Together, Wayne and Jeanne raised five children: Alan, Lisa, Leah, Lynee and Paul. He was a lifetime member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center and served as an elder and a deacon. He also served on the Hope Haven Board and was active in leadership in the dairy industry. He enjoyed playing cards and board games and golfing with friends. Over the years, Wayne and Jeanne enjoyed many cruises with friends and especially enjoyed their trip to Israel in 2000. Those left to remember him are his wife of 51 years, Jeanne; his five children and spouses: Alan and Barb Dykshorn of Sioux Center, Lisa and Michael Brunson of Charlotte, NC, Leah Dykshorn of Sheldon, Lynee Glover of Kansas City, MO and Paul and Stephanie Dykshorn of Ireton, IA; eleven grandchildren: David, Jon (Melissa), Levi, Maggie Dykshorn, Amber (Alex) Velez, John and Joel Trumble, Olivia, Jada, Samuel and Solomon Glover; three great grandchildren: Autumn, Silas and Alexis. He will be missed by sisters and brothers-in-law: Wanda and Marv Te Grotenhuis of Kingwood, TX and Shirley and Al Schouten of Sioux Center, brother-in-law, Gerald Meuleners of Spicer, MN, and brothers and sisters-in-law: Owen and Eulyn Dykshorn of Sioux Center and Eldon and Terry Dykshorn of Scottsdale, AZ along with several nieces, nephews and friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaret; sister and brother in law, Audrey and Roger Den Herder; sister, Mildred Meuleners and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Johanna Vande Berg. We thank God for giving Wayne to us these 72 years, and his impact on our lives. In return we give him back to live in glory eternally.
