Joann Hoogland, 82, of Sioux Center, IA died Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Thursday at 10:00AM at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11:00AM at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church with Rev. John Lee officiating. In lieu of flowers or gift items the Hoogland family prefers memorials to Sioux Center Home Health & Hospice, Western Christian High School, Royale Meadows Care Center, c/o Sioux Center Health Foundation or Bethel Christian Reformed Building Fund. Joann Mildred Hoogland was born August 15, 1931 to Henry and Della (Bouma) Krommendyk in Boyden, Iowa. She was raised near Ireton, Iowa. She attended Ireton Christian Grade School and Western Christian High School in Hull. On July 6, 1951, Joann was joined in marriage to Dick Hoogland at her parent's home in Ireton. The couple moved to Sioux Center where Joann faithfully worked for Dordt College as a housekeeper for 35 years. Joann was an active member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center, and participated in ladies aide, Christian fellowship and women's Bible study. In her free time, Joann enjoyed attending Dordt College sporting events, camping with family and friends, gardening, bowling and traveling to visit her sisters. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dick Hoogland of Sioux Center, her six children: Shirley and Rick Van Waardhuizen of Lexington, NE; David and Ruth Hoogland of Sanborn, IA; Diane and Phil Grom of Rock Valley, Iowa, Jay and Laurie Hoogland of Lexington, NE, Leon and Faye Hoogland of Grandville, MI and Russel and Melinda Hoogland of Huron, SD; 19 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; her siblings, Margaret and Sy Disselkoen, Holland, MI, Henrietta Blacquiere all of Holland, MI; Leonard and Lorraine Krommendyk of Orange City, Pat and Carol Krommendyk of Fremont, MI; sisters-in-law, Margaret Krommendyk of Cherokee, IA and Sylvia Krommendyk of Worthington, MN as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers: Bernie and Delmar (Henry) Krommendyk and brother-in-law, John Blacquiere.
