Karen Vander Berg, 74, of Sioux Center, IA died Monday, June 9, 2014, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 7-8PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Thursday at 10:00AM at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11:00AM at the First Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Carl Klompien officiating. The Vander Berg family prefers memorials to Sioux Center Christian School Foundation. Karen Arlene Vander Berg was born on May 29, 1940 in Sioux Center, Iowa to Dick and Nelvia (Van Kley) Vander Berg. She passed away, at the age of 74, on June 9 at Pleasant Acres Care Facility in Hull, Iowa. Karen grew up in Sioux Center, Iowa. She attended Sioux Center Christian School, Western Christian High School, and Dordt College. Karen was an elementary teacher at Sioux Center Christian School following graduation from college. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time at Battle Lake, Minnesota and also cared for her aging parents. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Karen's interests included her massive flower beds at her cottage in Minnesota, feeding and watching song birds, reading, and making beautiful cards for family members, church members and her friends. Survivors are her brothers and their wives: Milton and Marlene Vander Berg of Holland, Michigan, Eldon and Wilma Vander Berg of Sioux Center, Iowa; her nephews: Mark Vander Berg, Brian Fuder, Kevin (Denise) Vander Berg, Brian (Kim) Vander Berg, Dale (Amy) Vander Berg, Mike (Bonnie) Vander Berg and her niece, Brenda Vander Berg. She was preceded in death by her parents; niece, Cheryl Fuder and nephew, Tim Vander Berg.
