John C. Ver Steeg Jr., 66, of Rock Valley, IA died Saturday, April 19, 2014, at his Rock Valley residence. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service will be held Thursday at 9:30AM at Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Stephen Phinney officiating. Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. The Ver Steeg family prefer memorials be directed to Hope Haven International. John Carl Ver Steeg, Jr. was born November 14, 1947 in Orange City, Iowa to John Carl Sr. and Driscilla Louise (Vande Berg) Ver Steeg. John graduated from Sioux Center Community high school in 1966. He attended Northwestern College in Orange City and graduated with a degree in psychology in 1971. In his free time, John could be found hunting, fishing, playing baseball or restoring old cars. He enjoyed reading or sharing a cup of coffee with a friend. Throughout his lifetime, he held a variety of jobs and lived in Sioux Center, Orange City and Rock Valley. John passed away, unexpectedly, at his Rock Valley home on April 19, 2014. He is survived by two sisters: Mary Ver Steeg and Jane and Steve Phinney all of Sterling, KS; four nieces: Abigail (Phinney) and Quintin Eason of Sterling, KS, Elizabeth (Phinney) and Nathan Ford of Nikerson, KS, Jessica Phinney of Sterling and Traci Board of Hutchinson, KS; five great nieces: Phoebe, Victoria, Grace and Gabriella Eason and Montana Ford; three great nephews: Wyatt and Logan Eason and Zion Ford. He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Bethann.
