Wally Mouw was born on May 14, 1924 to John and Dora (Van Meeteren) Mouw in Newkirk, Iowa. He graduated from Newkirk High school in 1942. Wally married Selma "Jean" Westra on December 16, 1949. The couple farmed near Newkirk from 1949-1953 after which they purchased their farm east of Ireton and remained there until they retired to Sioux Center in 1996. Wally and Jean were proud foster parents of 15 area kids for several years. They enjoyed traveling and were proud to say they had visited every state in the United States as well as trips to Canada and the Caribbean. Wally loved to feed cattle and purchased cattle directly from the ranchers he knew personally in Montana. He later in life got his CDL and drove semi-truck for different trucking companies. He was one of the easiest going, laid back, men you ever would have the privilege to meet. Wally is survived by five children and their spouses: Kent and Nancy Mouw of Ireton, Lynn and Eldon Nederhoff of Wellsburg, IA, Dean and Darlene Mouw of Embarrass, MN, Gail and Greg De Wit of Rock Valley, Lea Ann and Verlyn Van Regenmorter of Sioux Center; 14 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Jeanette Doppenberg and Pauline Vander Zwaag both of Orange City, his brother-in-law and his wife, Wes and Fann Westra of Ireton and several nieces and nephews. Wally was preceded in death by his wife Jean; his parents; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Morris and Wilma Mouw, Don and Irma Mouw and brothers-in-law, Bill Doppenberg and Jurry Vander Zwaag.
