Theresa Riemersma

Theresa Riemersma, 90, of Sioux Center, IA died Friday, March 28, 2014, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:30AM at the Covenant Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Reverend Kory Plockmeyer officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. The Riemersma family prefers memorials to the Sioux Center Christian School Foundation. Theresa Riemersma was born on November 10, 1923 to William and Louise (Feenstra) Beimers in Ireton, Iowa. She was raised in Hospers, Iowa and received an education through the 12th grade in Sibley, Iowa. She married Wilbur Riemersma on January 24, 1947 in Sibley, Iowa. Wilbur and Theresa lived in Ashton, Iowa and moved to Sioux Center, Iowa in 1965, where Theresa worked at Dordt College for over 25 years. Wilbur and Theresa were also among the founding members of Covenant CRC in Sioux Center. Theresa enjoyed watching old movies and Westerns, gardening, baking and listening to Christian music on the radio. She loved to read her Bible and she attended many neighborhood Bible studies. She was also well known for her embroidery work, and for creating blankets and dish towels for her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and she wrote in a journal every day. Theresa is survived by her son-in-law, Arlen Van Ravenswaay from Sanborn, Iowa; sons and daughters-in-law: Hal and Judy Riemersma and Larry and Ruth Riemersma of Sioux Center, Iowa; Randy and Nancy Riemersma of Willmar, Minnesota; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Gary Maas of Corsica, South Dakota; 20 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; her brother, Bill Beimers and his wife, Esther of Luverne, Minnesota; her sister, Dorothy Anderson of Sioux City, Iowa; and her brother-in-law, Louis Kuiper of Sioux Center, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur, her daughter, Leola Van Ravenswaay and her sister, Katherine Kuiper.
