Alberta Horstman, 72, of Sioux Center, IA died Tuesday, February 25, 2014, Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Saturday at 10:00AM at the Faith Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00AM at Faith Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Bernie Haan officiating. The Horstman family prefer memorials be directed to the Sioux Center Christian School, Katelyn's Fund Orphan Ministry or the Spina Bifida Association of Iowa. Alberta Marie (Bonnema) Horstman was born April 30, 1941 to Albert and Henrietta (Dekker) Bonnema in Hudson, South Dakota. She grew up in rural Hawarden where she attended country school, Lebanon Christian School and Western Christian High School. On June 25, 1959, she was joined in marriage to Norm Horstman at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Sue (Del) Van Regenmorter, Allen (Colleen) Horstman, Mark (Cheri) Horstman, and Rhonda (Todd) Bartels; 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. The couple enjoyed living many years on a farm near Hawarden until 1993 when they moved to Sioux Center. Alberta was a loving wife, mother, grandma and great grandma. Her love for her family and Savior was evident all throughout her life. She was a committed church member and attended Lebanon CRC, Ireton CRC and currently Faith CRC in Sioux Center. She also served many young girls as a Calvinette leader for several years. Alberta will be remembered by those who loved her as a woman with a generous and caring heart. Throughout her life she worked various jobs serving as a waitress, cook, seamstress and Tupperware Dealer. Most recently her days were filled with sewing doll clothes. She loved meeting people while working beside her husband at area craft fairs. She enjoyed filling her days spending time with her family, crocheting, doing needle work or making apple pies. Survivors include her faithful husband of 54 years, Norm Horstman of Sioux Center; four children and their spouses, all of Sioux Center, 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Rich De Boom; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Joan Horstman all of Sioux Center. Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Verna Mae Bonnema and Betty De Boom; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Alma Bonnema; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Esther and Art Zevenbergen; brother-in-law, Ken Horstman and still born grandson, Michael Allen Horstman.
