Gerrit Fedders, 92, of Sioux Center, IA, formerly of Ireton, IA, died Thursday, February 20, 2014, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital in Sioux Center. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-8PM, with the family present from 2-4PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 10:00AM at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. John Lee and Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. The Fedders family prefer memorials be directed to the Sioux Center Christian School Building Project or Bethel Christian Reformed Church Building Expansion Fund. Gerrit H. Fedders was born March 17, 1921 to Herman and Hilda (Mulder) Fedders in Ireton, Iowa. He was raised on a farm near Ireton and attended the Ireton Christian School through the eighth grade. On February 1, 1945, Gerrit was joined in marriage to Marie Engeltjes in Ireton. The couple made their home on the Fedders family farm where they raised their family and worked hand in hand until retiring from farming in 1993. They moved to Sioux Center in 1994 and have lived at Crown Pointe since 2013. Gerrit was a very devoted husband and was thankful for a wonderful 69 years of marriage. Gerrit was a longtime member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church where he served as a deacon and elder. After moving to Sioux Center he became a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church. Over the years, Gerrit served on the board of the Ireton Christian School and remained active with Hope Haven and the Foster Grandparent program for 17 years. Gerrit enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and liked keeping himself busy with carpentry projects or mowing his lawn. He is survived by his loving wife, Marie of Sioux Center; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Erna Fedders of Sioux Center and Dave and Joyce Fedders of Sheldon, IA; five grandchildren and their families: Ron and Marg Fedders of Sioux Center and their children: Eric, Kristen, Alyssa and Ryan; Dan and Deb Fedders of Sioux Center and their children: Caitlynn, Jayden and Brianna; Pat and Steve Sandbulte of Rock Valley and their children: Ethan and Ava; Lyle and Melanie Fedders of Des Moines, IA and their children: Lauren, Mackenzie and Natalie; Jared Fedders and his fiancé, Amanda Veflin of Sioux Falls, SD. Also left to cherish his memory are sister-in-law, Lena Fedders of Sioux Center; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bernie and Betty Engeltjes of Leota, MN and Andy and Betty Engeltjes of Orange City as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gerrit is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Dick and his wife, Mae Fedders, Ben Fedders and Henry Fedders; three sisters: Grace and George Westra, Sadie Westra-Sinkey and her husbands, Peter Westra and Clarence Sinkey and Matilda and Walter Van Meeteren. Members of the Engeltjes family that preceded Gerrit in death are Bernie Engeltjes; Lewis and Gertrude Engeltjes, Henry and Wilma Engeltjes, Bertha and Dick Franken, Grace and Tony Van Roekel, Hattie and Fred Vollink, Fannie and Fred Van Dieren and Nell and Bill Meyer.
