Rena Dragstra

Rena Dragstra, 90, of Sioux Center, IA died Sunday, January 19, 2014, at Sioux Center Community Hospital. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-8PM, with family present from 5-7PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A funeral service will be held at Thursday at 11AM at the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church of rural Sioux Center, with Cory Van Sloten officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Lebanon Cemetery. The Dragstra family prefers memorials be directed to the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church or the Sioux Center Christian School Foundation. Rena Kooi Dragstra was born February 5, 1923 to Peter and Gertie (Kooi) Haverhals in Sioux Center, Iowa. She was raised on a farm west of Sioux Center and attended the Lebanon Christian School and country school through the eighth grade. On February 6, 1947, Rena was joined in marriage to Chris Dragstra at the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church. The couple made their home in the Lebanon area where they farmed and were faithful members of the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church. Rena faithfully played the organ at church for 20 years. Over the years, Rena was a member of various bible studies including the Ora Et Labora and Coffee Break. She enjoyed spending time in her garden and preparing delicious baked goods and meals for her family. Rena is survived by five children: Willie Dragstra of Sioux Center, Phyllis and Bryce Fopma, Rose and Bernie Sichmeller, Carol Dragstra and Lee Jandl all of Sioux Falls, SD and Ken and Julie Dragstra of Sioux Center; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Gertie Bonnema of Sioux Center, Jean Boeve of Hastings, NE, and Adelene Haverhals of Lynden, WA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joe and Jennie Dragstra of Edgerton, MN and Orville and Marge Beltman of Orange City as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Jeffrey Wayne Dragstra; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Ann and Henry Dekkers, Grace and Peter Dekkers; brothers and sisters-in-law, Siebert and Fannie Haverhals, Peter and Josephine Haverhals; brothers-in-law, Melvin Bonnema and Allen Boeve. Other in-laws that have preceded her in death are Grace Mesaros Vander Veen and her husband, Joe Mesaros, Tom and Tena De Jong, John and Tillie Wallenburg, Ted and Hermina Dragstra and Edna Beltman.
