Arthur Kamerman

Art Kamerman, 91, of Sioux Center, IA died Wednesday, January 01, 2014, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Saturday at 10:00AM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00AM at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Tanner Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers or gift items the Kamerman family prefer memorials be directed to the Sioux Center Veterans Memorial or the M2 Prison Ministry. Arthur William Kamerman was born July 12, 1922 to Henry and Johanna (Riphagen) Kamerman near Sioux Center, Iowa. He was raised on a farm 1 miles south of Sioux Center. He attended country school through the eighth grade. He was joined in marriage to Anna Jansen on February 7, 1945 in Sioux Center. Two months later, he was inducted into the United States Navy and served on the US Gemini AP75 in San Francisco, CA. The ship set its course for the Marshall Islands a week after the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. He was discharged from the military on April 24, 1946. For 10 months after his return, Art worked for Coop Gas and Oil before moving to the family farm with his wife and first born son, Harlan. Art was a lifetime member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center and served as a deacon and elder. He also enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. Art loved to sing and sang and played with the OK Trio at many nursing homes over the years. Art had a lifetime love of farming and also enjoyed spending his free time doing various woodworking projects. For 20 years, he volunteered at the M2 prison ministry program. Survivors include four children, Harlan and Norma Kamerman of Sioux Center, Donna Kamerman of Sioux Center, Ruth and Dave Hoyler of Amarillo, TX and Robert and Shar Kamerman of Sioux Center; daughter-in-law, Mary Kamerman of Sioux Center; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lena De Vries of Sioux Center and Nettie and Earl De Jong of Orange City; as well as Art's special friend, Mina Mouw and numerous nieces and nephews. Art is preceded in death by his wife, Ann; a son Dave; a brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Mabel Kamerman and brother-in-law, Gerb De Vries.
