Martha De Jong, 93, of Hull, IA died Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. A visitation will be held on Monday from 5-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM at the Hull Protestant Reformed Church of Hull. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1:30PM at the Hull Protestant Reformed Church of Hull with Rev. Allen Brummel officiating. The De Jong family prefers memorials benefit Trinity Christian High School of Hull or Hull Protestant Reformed Christian School. Martha (Vogel) De Jong was born December 30, 1919 in Orange City, Iowa to Albert and Sadie Vogel. She was raised in Bigelow, Minnesota, Sheldon and Hull, Iowa; she attended school through the eighth grade. Martha married Thomas G. De Jong on December 6, 1946 at her parent's home. The couple lived in Perkins, Iowa for a short time before moving on to the De Jong family farm west of Perkins. They farmed there until their retirement. After retiring they built a new home on the eastside of Hull. Martha was a member of the Hull Protestant Reformed Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, camping, fishing and reading. Martha is survived by her six children and spouses: Gerben and Carol De Jong of Hull; Shirley Powers of Paullina; Helinda Wiersma of Hull; Mary and Jim Winter of George; Marla and Elbert Gesink of Alamosa, CO and Alden and Twyla De Jong of Hull along with her 22 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arnold and Albertha De Jong of Hull and numerous nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Thomas G. De Jong; a daughter-in-law, Barbara De Jong; sons-in-law, Rand Powers and David Wiersma; two infant grandsons: Brent Powers and Veryl De Jong; her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Margaret Vogel; sisters and brothers-in-law: Tillie and Joe Brummel, Grace and Adrian Buren, Tena and William Leusink; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Mina and William Hulstein, Edith and Albertus De Jong; sister-in-law, Adelaide De Jong.
