Katherine Armington, 88, of Sioux Center, IA died Thursday, October 3, 2013, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. A visitation with the family present will be held Monday 1:30-2:30PM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. A funeral service will be held Monday at 2:30PM at First Reformed Church with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. Arrangements entrusted to the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. Katherine M. Armington was born on January 27, 1925 in Sheldon, Iowa to Hilton and Bena (Wesselink) Den Hartog. Katherine was raised and educated in Sheldon. Katherine met George F. Armington while working in Sioux City, Iowa at Aalfs Manufacturing to support the war effort. They were married on December 29, 1944 in Sioux City. Following George's deployment with the US Army Air Corps during World War II, the couple made their home in Boston, Massachusetts. There Katherine worked as a hairdresser for many years. In 1996, Katherine and George settled in Sioux Center, Iowa. She was a member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. In her spare time, Katherine enjoyed working on craft projects and photography. Katherine adored her many pets over the years. She and George led an active life together; they took many extended sailing trips on their boat when living in Boston and travel worldwide. Surviving is her sister, Norma Kruse of Rock Rapids; her eight nieces and nephews and a goddaughter. Katherine was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years; her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Eva and George Landry; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Bernie and Minnie Den Hartog and Howard and Hermina Den Hartog; brother-in-law, Walter Kruse; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Dorothy Armington.
