Edith Sietstra

Edith Sietstra, 95, of Boyden, IA died Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Whispering Heights Care Center, of Rock Valley, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4PM at Demco Center in of Boyden. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Monday at 10:00AM at the First Reformed Church of Boyden. Interment will follow the prayer service in Sheridan Township Cemetery of Boyden. A memorial service will be held Monday at 11:00AM at First Reformed Church of Boyden with Rev. Matthew Draffen officiating. Edith Darlene Sietstra was born on November 25, 1917 to Pleun and Lillian (Van Putten) DeZeeuw in Sioux Center, Iowa. She was raised in Sioux Center and graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1936. As a young lady, Edith stayed busy working at downtown Sioux Center businesses. During WWII she moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where she worked at a defense plant. Edith married Herman Sietstra on February 5, 1948 at her parents' home in Sioux Center. After their marriage, Edith faithfully helped Herman on the farm and was proud to be a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of the Boyden First Reformed Church and was active in women's Bible studies and various other activities. Edith's greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting blankets and other gifts for her children and grandchildren. She looked forward to spending time with her five sisters, which she lovingly called "Sister Day". Tuesday Card Club and Thursday Dominoes with her friends were always a highlight for her over the years. She is survived by her children: John (Linda) Sietstra of Springfield, MO, Philip (Marcia) Sietstra of Sioux Falls, SD, Larry (LaVonne) Sietstra of Boyden, Karla (Dave) DeJongh of Rock Valley, Dale (Lila) Sietstra of Sheldon, and Cheryl (Dennis) Rodger of Storm Lake, IA; 19 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Frances Schuiteman of Sioux Center; brother-in-law, Adrian Punt of Sioux Center; sister-in-law, Reka Sietstra of Jenison, MI; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Martin (Joyce) Sietstra of Pella, IA, Peter (Lois) Sietstra of Boyden and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; sister, Gertrude Punt; sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Herman Harmelink, Joan and Andrew Brenneman, Freda and Peter G. Mouw; brother-in-law, Arthur J. Schuiteman; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tillie and Gelf Vander Boon.
