Albert Kooiker

Albert Kooiker, 86, of Hull, IA died Wednesday, August 28, 2013 Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. A visitation will be held at Hope Christian Reformed Church of Hull on Friday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM. A funeral service will be held at Saturday at 1:30PM at Hope Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Todd Zuidema officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Hope Cemetery of Hull. The Kooiker family prefers memorials be directed to Hull Christian School or Sioux Center Home Health & Hospice. Albert Kooiker was born on May 22, 1927 to Herman and Anne (Brummel) Kooiker in Sioux County, Iowa. He was raised near Boyden, Iowa. Al received his education through the 8th grade at Capel No. 2 rural grade school of Boyden. Albert served in the military helping with the reconstruction of Germany. Al married Harriet Ruth Vande Weerd on June 3, 1952 at Hospers, Iowa. He farmed his entire life in the same section of land near Boyden. In 1991, Al and Harriet moved to Hull. He was a member of Hope Christian Reformed Church where he served as deacon and elder. His interests were family, traveling, reading and telling stories. Al and Harriet enjoyed spending time with good friends, Jim and Ann Wielenga. Al enjoyed water skiing into his 80's and last summer stated that he would like to have skied "just one more time" He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Harriet of Hull; four children and their spouses: Luetta (Ken) Hyronimus of Worthing, SD, Glen (Lisa) Kooiker, Sheryl (Alan) Warntjes, Mark (Jessica) Kooiker all of Boyden; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Annetta Lammers of Alton, IA, Ruth Vande Weerd of Mazeppa, MN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dick (Tracia) Morren of Beresford, SD as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, William (Joan) Kooiker; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Johanna (Leroy) Wallinga and Clara (Nick) Vande Weerd; brother-in-law, Don Lammers; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bert (Hermine) Vande Weerd, Harold (Dorothy) Vande Weerd; sister-in-law, Alys Vande Weerd; two great-grandchildren: Autumn Marie Hoekstra, and Talon Michael Vande Kamp.
