Gertrude Van De Berg, 82, of Sioux Center, IA died Saturday, August 24, 2013, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. A visitation will be held at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center on Tuesday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM. A funeral service will be held at Wednesday at 1:30PM at First Reformed Church with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. The Van De Berg family prefers memorials be directed to Sioux center Home Health & Hospice or Words of Hope. On August 24, 2013, Gertrude (Vonk) Van De Berg of Sioux Center was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born on March 29, 1931 to Ben & Jennie (Katze) Vonk on a farm west of Sioux Center. She received an education through the 8th grade at country school, Center #4. Gertrude married Elmer Van De Berg on March 26, 1951 in Sioux Center, Iowa. They lived on a farm east of Sioux Center their entire life. Gert and Elmer worked side by side as they raised crops, hogs, cattle and sold seed corn. They were always proud of their bumper crop from their large garden. They attended First Reformed Church where she was a member of the Naomi Circle. Gert and Elmer had five children: Delores Jean who passed away at 11 years of age; Harv and Sandi (Feekes), Arlin and Diane (Broek), Keith all of Sioux Center and Mark and Susan (Canning) of Brownsville, CA; 7 grandchildren: Kyle Van De Berg, Kim Miller, Kara Dieleman, Justin, Jordan and Jared Van De Berg, Colton Van De Berg and 8 great-grandchildren: Emilee Miller, Kaden, Nevaeh and Brynlee Van De Berg, Ava Dieleman, Jorgia, Charlotte and William Van De Berg. Gertrude is also survived by her family: brothers: George and Eugene Vonk both of Sioux Center and sisters: Kathy Vande Kieft of Orange City and Dorothy Van Bochove of Sun City, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Delores; grandson, Justin Van De Berg, brothers: Henry, Ben, Gerrit, Peter Vonk and sisters: Jeannette Feekes and Goldie De Jager.
