Chuck Miedema, of Sioux Center, IA died Thursday, August 15, 2013, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-8PM, with the family present from 2-4PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Monday at 10:15AM at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held at Monday at 11AM at First Reformed Church with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. The Miedema family prefers memorials be directed to Sioux Center Home Health & Hospice or Christian Care Fund of First Reformed Church. Charles (Chuck) Miedema was born on February 8, 1938 in Canton, South Dakota to Sam and Alice Miedema. He received his education in Fairview, South Dakota through the eighth grade. Chuck served 2 years in the U.S. army during the Korean Conflict. On April 21, 1960, Chuck married Agnes Van Beek in Sioux Center, Iowa, where they spent their 53 years of marriage together. During their first years of marriage, Chuck was employed at the Sioux Center Creamery and later worked at Sioux Preme Packing Company when it first opened. Chuck later found he had a gift for custodial work and over the years worked a variety of Sioux Center locations including Hy-Vee, the public school, First Reformed Church, and the Community Hospital. Chuck was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Chuck liked having things in their place and took pride in keeping his pick-up "standing tall." He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing. He loved to gather with his family and spend time with them. After retirement, camping became a favorite pastime to Chuck and Agnes, where they made many new friends. Surviving relatives include his wife, Agnes Miedema of Sioux Center, three daughters: Alice Nyhof of Sioux Center, Elaine (Gary) Vande Weerd of Sioux Center, and Donna (Brad) Wallenburg of Hull; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three sisters: Frieda (Pete) Kortlever of Orange City, Dorothy (Ray) VanWyhe of Hawarden and Hilda (Darrell) Kratochvil of Tucson, Arizona; three brothers-in-law: Al (Vicki) Van Beek of Rock Valley, Klaas (Trudy) Van Beek of Sioux Center, and Gerrit (Deb) Van Beek of Rock Valley; three sisters-in-law, Gert (Stan) Gaalswyk of Sibley, Wilma (Gary) Leusink of Sibley and Henny (Loren) Kots of Rock Valley as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: John and Clarence; son-in-law, Lyle Nyhof and parent-in-laws, Albertus and Elizabeth Van Beek.
