Clarence Van Putten, 91, of Sioux Center, IA died Monday, July 8, 2013, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 10AM at Royale Meadows Care Center with Rev. Mark Verbruggen officiating. Interment will be held at Artesia Cemetery of Artesia, CA. No visitation will be held. Clarence Gerald Van Putten was born north of Sioux Center on April 7, 1922 to Albert and Margaret (Poppen) Van Putten. In 1936, he moved with his family to Minnesota. In 1962, he and his parents moved to Artesia, California. Clarence settled in Sioux Center in 1972 where he was employed at Hope Haven for the next 30 years. In 2002, Clarence made his home in Franken Manor and worked a few hours each week at Walmart for a short time. In 2006, he became a resident of Royale Meadows Care Center where he was residing at the time of his death on July 8, 2013. Clarence had a passion for music his entire life. In his later years, he would spend several hours of each day listening to records from his large collection. Clarence also enjoyed reading travel magazines and talking with people. Clarence is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law: Stanley and Betty (Hilfers) Van Putten of Lakewood, CO and Kenneth and Joan (Schneider) Van Putten of Castle Rock, CO; a sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Neil Kempema of Worthington, MN along with several nieces and nephews. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Margaret Van Putten.
