Willie Rus

Willie Rus 65, of Sioux Center, IA formerly of Dallas TX, died Friday, June 21, 2013 at the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System of Sioux Falls, SD. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:30AM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center with Rev. Everett Adams officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. The Rus family asks in lieu of flowers or gift items that memorials be directed to the Netherlands Reformed School, Rock Valley, IA. Wilfert Gene Rus was born January 28, 1948 to Cornelius and Katherine Rus in Mitchell, South Dakota. He was raised in the Corsica, South Dakota area and attended country school through the eighth grade. In 1959, the Rus family moved to Iowa and settled in the Inwood area. Willie served his country in the US Army from 1968 - 1970, serving two tours during the Vietnam War. After his discharge from the Army, Willie settled in the Dallas, Texas area. For a number of years, Willie worked for the Dallas Morning News, a major daily newspaper. Later he was employed by courier service in the Dallas area. On June 9, 1990, Willie Married Sharon Schreiber. The couple made their home in Garland, Texas. In his free time, Willie was known for being a collector and his many woodworking projects. Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Cornie and Katherine Rus of Sioux Center; siblings: Frank and Linda Rus of Grand Rapids, MI, Joel and Fran Rus of Hudsonville, MI, Jerry and Londa Rus of Sioux Center, Marion and Judy Rus of Greenville, MI, Gloria Buus of Harrisburg, SD, Mel and Brenda Rus of Zeeland, MI, Harlan and Carla Rus of Sioux Center, Virgil and Mary Rus of Holland, MI, Howard and Janelle Rus of Sioux Center, Harold and Lynda Rus of Sioux Center and Edwin Rus of Waterloo, IA; stepsons: Kevin and Julie Schreiber and their families of Honey Grove, TX and Kelly and Angie Schreiber and their family of Rowlett, TX as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Rus; two nephews: Trevor Rus and Jamie Rus and one niece, Sophie Rus.
