William J. Heynen

William J. Heynen, 75, of Sioux Center, IA died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Wednesday at 10:00AM at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11AM at Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. John Lee officiating. In lieu of flowers or gifts items, the Heynen family prefer memorials be directed to Western Christian High School or Sioux Center Home Health and Hospice. William J. Heynen was born on a farm north of Sioux Center, Iowa to Hilbert and Alice (Klein) Heynen on July 11, 1937. He attended country school and then Western Christian High School for two years. William then began farming with his father. He married Joyce De Vries on June 14, 1960 and they were blessed with four children. William was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center, where he served on the church council. He was active in 4-H as a teenager, and later became a leader. He was in the 185th Air National Guard Unit from 1959-1965. Along with farming, he worked at Tri-State Sale Barn in Sioux Center on Fridays from 1960-1973. He also served on the Hull Coop board for eighteen years. He and Joyce moved to Sioux Center in 2010. William passed away peacefully on June 8, 2013 after a 4½ year battle with liver disease. He is survived by his wife of almost 53 years, Joyce Heynen of Sioux Center; his three daughters and sons-in-law: Julie and Galen Kraayenbrink of Hull and their children: Melissa (Matt) Boer, Joel (Kari) Kraayenbrink and Derek Kraayenbrink; Laurel and Dan Buyert of Hull and their children: Daniel(Brianne) Buyert, Jenna (Chad) Vanden Bosch, Katelyn (Justin) Boersma and David Buyert; Mary and Mike Ver Burg of Rock Valley and their children: Jack (Kelsey) Ver Burg, Lee Ver Burg and Jodi Ver Burg; eight great-grandchildren; along with sister and brother-in-law, Caroline and Rallyn Van Beek of Sioux Center, brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Sally Heynen of St. Paul, MN; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Harold and Leona De Vries of Pella, Syburn and Judy De Vries of Pella, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gert and Bob Visser of Grand Rapids, MI, and several nephews and nieces. William was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel William Heynen; his parents and parents-in-law.
