Derrick Rensink

April 26, 1989 — May 24, 2013

Derrick Rensink, 24, of Primghar, IA, formerly of Sioux Center, IA, died unexpectedly Friday, May 24, 2013, at Baum Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at New Life Reformed Church of Sioux Center from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 1:30PM at New Life Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Randy Widbin officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. In lieu of flowers or gift items, the Rensink family prefers memorials in memory of Derrick to the South O'Brien Elementary School, c/o the Rensink family. Derrick Austin Rensink attended and graduated from Sioux Center High School in May, 2007. He attended and graduated from Northwestern College in December, 2011 with Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. He was a substitute teacher from January, 2012 to May 2012 in area schools as well as the Assistant Girls' Basketball coach at Boyden-Hull. He spent his summers working at The Ridge Golf Course. In August, 2012 he landed his dream job as a fourth grade teacher at South O'Brien Elementary School and the Head Girls' Basketball coach and Jr. High Baseball Coach. He loved every minute of the time he worked and spent at South O'Brien. His home church was New Life Reformed Church and he attended Zion St. John Lutheran Church in Paullina. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Darren and Lisa and sisters, Lauren and Victoria all of Sioux Center; the love of his life, Erica Witte; paternal grandparents, Darrel and Jo Rensink; aunts and uncles: Sue and Jerry Noteboom and children: Kristi Moen, Todd Noteboom, Kayti and Brad Beukelman, and Kelsi Noteboom; Jim and Barbara Grond and Amanda; Dave and Brenda Grond and Hannah; Steve and Greta Grond and daughters: Elly, Maggie, Lydia, and Josie; Beth Rich and Kelly Rich and their children: Laura and Kyle; Leah and Jeff Vander Zwaag and their children: Josh and Brittany Vander Zwaag and Jordan Vander Zwaag; Lyle and Laura Rensink and their daughters: Ava and Ella; Lonna and Brandon Sumner and their children: Brady and Brooke; numerous friends and colleagues. Derrick was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Frederick and Patricia Grond and infant uncle, Loren Rensink.
