Gertrude Vanden Brink

August 13, 1926 — March 8, 2013

Gertrude Vanden Brink, 86, of Rock Valley, formerly of Sioux Center, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at Whispering Heights Care Center in Rock Valley. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:30AM at the Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Everett Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. Visitation will be held Tuesday one hour prior to the service. Gertrude Vanden Brink was born August 13, 1926 near Ireton, Iowa to Steven and Jennie (Van Ravenswaay) Van Den Brink. She attended country school through the eighth grade. As a young woman, Gertrude lived in Sioux Center while working for families in their home. She was also employed at the Sioux Cooperative Produce egg processing plant. Later Gertrude lived in Rock Valley where she worked at the Hegg Memorial Hospital in the laundry department for many years. Gertrude was a member of the Sioux Center Netherlands Reformed Congregation. Gertrude is survived by her son, Eugene Van Den Brink of North Kansas City, MO; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Richard and Lavina Vanden Brink and John and Henrietta Van Den Brink all of Sioux Center; two sisters: Henrietta Vanden Brink of Hull and Josephine Koedam of Rock Valley along with several nieces and nephews. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Tillie Vanden Brink, Jr.; brother-in-law, Everett Koedam and five infant siblings.
