G. Lawrence Ter Horst

Lawrence Ter Horst, 82, of Ireton, IA died Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-8PM with the family present from 2-4PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Monday at 2:15PM at the Ireton Christian Reformed Church of Ireton. Interment will follow the prayer service in Pleasant Hill Cemetery of Ireton. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 3PM at the Ireton Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Norlan Van Beek officiating. In lieu of flowers or gifts the Ter Horst family prefer memorials be directed to Atlas of Sioux Center or Hope Haven Ministries. G. Lawrence Ter Horst was born June 26, 1930 to Bert and Gertrude (Gesink) Ter Horst. He was raised on a farm near Alton, Iowa and attended Orange City Christian School. At age twelve, his family moved to a farm near Ireton, Iowa where he lived until 2005. On July, 23, 1950, Lawrence married Dinah Schiebout in Sioux Center. Lawrence and Dinah were blessed with six children. Lawrence was currently a member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church. Through the years he served on various boards and committees at church and the Christian School. In his retirement years, Lawrence enjoyed working at the Ireton Hope Haven shop and the Second Chance Depot in Sioux Center. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dinah Ter Horst of Ireton; five children: Eugene and Mary Ter Horst of Byron Center, MI, Sharon and Lowell Green of Logan, IA, Evan and Ann Ter Horst of Sioux Center, Daniel and Barb Ter Horst of Escondido, CA, and Laura and Rodney Van Ravenswaay of Sioux Center; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Clara and Martin Hoekstra of Sheldon, Iowa and Harriet Snieder of Sioux Center; brother-in-law, Chris Schiebout of Holland, MI and sister-in-law, Nelvera Schiebout of Orange City. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Lenneth Ter Horst; grandson, Travis Ter Horst; great-granddaughter, Sophia Ter Horst; brother-in-law, Warren Snieder and numerous in-laws from the Schiebout family.
