Joel Lee Slothouber loved anything with a motor. He was known as a go-getter whether at work or play. "Joey" to those who knew him, was born in Sioux Center, Iowa on December 10, 1986 to Brian and Mary (Weyen) Slothouber. He attended Sioux Center Community Schools, graduating with the Class of 2005. He went on to attend Northwest Iowa Community College where he completed the auto mechanic and diesel mechanic programs. Joey was employed at Franken Implement in Carmel, where he was a diesel mechanic. He was united in marriage to Brittany Lynn Van Den Hul in Sioux Center on July 27, 2012. They made their home in Maurice, Iowa. To say Joey loved the outdoors would be an understatement. As a boy and young man he spent his free time shooting trap and sporting clays with his dad and grandpa, hunting pheasant or deer, riding four-wheeler or his sled. Joey always had to be first, so he used his mechanical skills to make whatever he was riding run stronger and faster than everyone else. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Brittany Slothouber of Maurice; his parents: Brian and Mary Slothouber of Sioux Center; a sister, Jennifer Slothouber of Sioux Center and her son, Phoenyx; a brother, Josh Slothouber of Alton and his son, Braden; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Troy and Cindy Van Den Hul of Sioux Center; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lindsey and Nick Vande Kieft of Sioux Center and their sons: Jordan and Carter; sister-in-law, Kelsey Van Den Hul of Sioux Center; maternal grandfather, Ray Weyen of Sioux Center; paternal grandfather and grandmother, Gerald and Adeline Slothouber of Warsaw, MO; Brittany's grandparents: Betty Kooima of Rock Valley and Jake and Phyllis Van Den Hul of Sioux Falls. Joey is also survived by uncles, aunts, cousins and a host of friends. Joey was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Helen Weyen; his wife's grandfather, Gerrit Kooima and an uncle, David Slothouber.
