Edie Lubach

Edith Lubach, 87, of Sioux Center, IA died Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Friday at 10:00AM at the Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11:00AM at the Central Reformed Church with Rev. Van Rathbun officiating. The Lubach family prefers memorials to Sioux Center Home Health and Hospice. Edith DeWit Lubach was born on Sept. 27, 1925 on a farm near Middleburg, Iowa, the daughter of Neal and Johanna (Zevenbergen) DeWit. Edith attended elementary and high school in Sioux Center before attending Central College, in Pella, Iowa for two years. Before college she taught at Welcome County School #4. After her marriage to Howard Lubach on August 22, 1947, she taught 1st grade in the Sioux Center Public Schools. Edie left full time teaching when they started their family. Later she also worked at AEA 4 for eight years. Edie was a life-long, faithful member of Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center. She taught Sunday School and was active in Women's Ministries. Her greatest joy in life was participating in her children's and grandchildren's activities. She also enjoyed golfing at Sandy Hollow, reading, Monday morning coffee at the bakery, and picnics at Oak Grove with a special group of friends. Visits from brothers and sisters and their families were always a summer highlight as well as trips to Wisconsin to visit Howard's family. Howard and Edie were married for 63 years. Survivors are her children: Bill and Ruth Lubach of Pella, Iowa, Bonnie and John Kaericher of Orange City, Iowa, Bruce and Laura Lubach of Lincoln, Nebraska and Barb Lubach of Denver, Colorado; her brothers: Julius DeWit and Gene (Norma) DeWit both of Canby, Minnesota; her sister, Helen (Loyd) Vermeer of Sioux Center, Iowa; her grandchildren: Aaron and Sarah Lubach, Joe Lubach, SSG Billy and Nikki Fox, Mary and SGT Troy Smith, Courtney and Dan Jennings, and Tanner Lubach; her great-grandchildren: Henry and Hudson Lubach and Halen Fox. Edie is also survived by her husband's sister Lois, (Mel) Lemberger of Greenfield, Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Howard; her brother, Jim (Maria) De Wit; her sisters: Adrianna (Eugene) Kuyper and Agnes Brawner (Glen Luymes, Howard Brawner) and sister-in-law, Jo DeWit.
