Tillie Sipma

Tillie Sipma, 92, of Hull and Sheldon, IA died Friday, January 11, 2013, at the Sanford Sheldon Senior Care. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9:30AM to 10:30AM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A funeral service will be held Monday at 10:30AM at Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Klompien officiating. Interment will follow the service in Hope Cemetery of Hull, Iowa. Tillie Sipma was born May 13, 1920 to Herman and Hattie (Spykerman) Oldenkamp near Archer, Iowa. Tillie attended the Sanborn Christian School through the seventh grade. On April 5, 1938 she was united in marriage to Andrew D. Sipma at her parent's home in Sanborn. Following their marriage, Tillie and Andrew lived in Sanborn for the next five years. They moved to Princeton, Missouri where they farmed for a year and a half before moving to Perkins, Iowa. Tillie and Andrew then headed west to settle in Bellflower, California for ten years, before moving to Sheldon, Iowa where they operated the King Korner Café for a year and a half. They returned to Bellflower for another ten years before settling in Hull, Iowa. They were residents of Hull for 29 years until they were welcomed into the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon. In November 2012, Tillie moved to Sanford Sheldon Senior Care. Over the years Tillie stayed extremely busy doing house cleaning for various families where they lived. More recently she served as a foster grandparent volunteer at Hope Haven's River Valley School. She also assisted at Hope Haven in their housekeeping department. Tillie and Andrew loved camping and traveling. Since living in Hull, Tillie had been a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Hull. In her spare time she loved to knit and crochet. She also sewed many blankets which were donated for school fund raising projects. Tillie is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Albertha Oldenkamp of Ontario, CA; sister-in-law, Hattie Oldenkamp of Ripon, CA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law William and Mary Baker of Dorr, MI and several nieces and nephews. Tillie was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Andrew D. Sipma; her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Peter Snuttjer; brother and sister-in-law: Gerrit and Josephine Oldenkamp; brother, John Oldenkamp; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Raymond and Catherine Sipma; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Gertrude and George De Groot and Elizabeth and Jacob Van Rees.
