Cornie Vander Stelt, 87, of Sioux Center, IA died Saturday, November 24, 2012, at Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Wednesday at 10:15AM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11AM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Cornelius Vander Stelt was born July 28, 1925 at Sioux Center, Iowa to John and Kate (Van Donkelaar) Vander Stelt. As a young man Cornie worked as a hired man for Dick Franken for several years. Later he was employed by Coop Gas and Oil for 38 years, primarily as a propane delivery driver. After retiring, Cornie worked part-time for HyVee in their greenhouse for several spring seasons. On July 28, 1947 Cornie was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae De Groot. Dorothy preceded him in death on March 25, 2002. Cornie was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. He loved fishing and took great pride in his garden each year. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities and filled his spare time by completing paint by numbers pictures. Surviving are his three daughters and sons-in-law: Crystal and Wayne Brink of Maurice, Gloria and Henry Paulsen of Sheldon, Marla and Terry Hooyer of Maurice; 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren. Cornie is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law: Gerrit and Tracy Vander Stelt of Lynden, WA, John and Wilma Vander Stelt of Maurice; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Jo and Gerrit Hielkema of Sibley, Betty and Rod Vander Weide of Maurice; sister, Dorothy Vander Weide of Maurice; sister-in-law, Sadie Van Peursem of Orange City and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Dorothy, he was preceded in death by two infant daughters: Marilyn Kay and Julie Ann; a grandson, a granddaughter, his parents and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
