John B. Broek, 84, of Sioux Center, IA died unexpectedly Saturday, October 27, 2012. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Wednesday at 10AM at Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11AM at Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. John Lee officiating. The Broek family prefers memorials to New Homestead Retirement Community. John B. Broek, the son of Bert and Dena (Kempers) Broek was born August 31, 1928 in Sioux Center, Iowa. He attended Welcome Township country school and Western Christian high school. John was a lifetime member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. John was united in marriage to Delma Schuiteman on January 13, 1950. John and Delma farmed for 33 years north of Sioux Center. John was active member of the community and served on the founding board of directors for American State Bank, as the president of the board of directors for Farmers Coop Society. He was also a member of the Sioux Center Christian School Board, and was a lifetime member of the Sioux County Pork Producers. John was well known in the hog industry and had established relationships with hog producers across the United States, as well as, Canada. He accumulated a roomful of swine trophies and memorabilia over his lifetime. John was awarded the distinction of Master Seedstock Producer in 1967 by the National Pork Producers Association. This past year John received the lifetime achievement award from the Sioux County Pork Producers. John supported many programs such as 4H and FFA, and mentored many youths and adults throughout their swine careers. John leaves to cherish his memory a son, Jeff Broek of Le Mars; two daughters and sons-in-law: Denise and Jim Rodenburgh of Sioux Center and Sandy and Brian Byrnes of Wittmann, AZ. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Jessica (Scott) Stensgaard of Sioux Falls, SD, Danielle Broek of Orlando, FL, Amber Scholten (fiancé, Jose Rodriguez) of Ireton, Brittney Scholten, Jonathan Scholten, Taylor Rodenburgh, Austin Rodenburgh all of Sioux Center, Kaitlin Byrnes of Wittmann, AZ and three great-grandchildren: Danica and Maya Garcia of Sioux Center, Aubrey Atwood of Sioux Falls; and special companion, Eleanor De Groot of Orange City. John is also survived by brother and sister-in-law, Delbert and Ann Broek of Sioux Center; sister-in-law: Priscilla Broek of Sioux Center; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Robert and Helene Schuiteman of Sheldon; sister-in-law, Frances Schuiteman of Sioux Center; brothers-in-law: Bernie Van't Hul of Sheldon and Norman De Jongh of Luverne, MN. John was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Delma Broek; a granddaughter, Amy Jo Broek; his parents; sisters and brothers-in-law: Margaret and Joe Van Roekel and Lillian and Warren Van Roekel; brother, Barney Broek; brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Thelma Broek; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arvin and Wilemina Schuiteman; brother-in-law, Art Schuiteman; sisters-in-law: Wilmina Van't Hul and Norma De Jongh.
