John Vande Pol, 94, of Sioux Center, IA died Friday, October 12, 2012, at the Royale Meadows Care Center of Sioux Center. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10AM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center with Rev. Herman Hofman officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. In lieu of flowers the Vande Pol Family requests memorial donations to the Netherlands Reformed Christian School of Rock Valley or the Netherlands Reformed Church of Sioux Center. John Vande Pol was born January 12, 1918 at Wageningen, The Netherlands, the son of Reijer Thomas and Cornelia Clasina (Jansen Van Doorn) Vande Pol. He received his education in The Netherlands and married Cornelia Dorothy Lagerwey of Leersum, The Netherlands on September 18, 1946. The couple immigrated to the United States on March 4, 1947, and farmed near Sioux Center, Iowa. After three years they moved to Maynard, Minnesota where they farmed for six years. They returned to Sioux Center to farm until their retirement in 1983. Dorothy preceded John in death on March 5, 1986. John was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Sioux Center. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Hildonna Vande Pol of Sioux Center; his daughter, Cora Harris of Fargo, ND; daughter and son-in-law, Deanne and Milt Van Den Top of Lynden, WA; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Dorothy; a great granddaughter, Elise Post; his parents; five sisters and one brother all of The Netherlands.
