Nelvina Vander Pol, 87, of Sioux Center, IA died Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 9th from 1-2PM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 9th at 2PM in the Chapel of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. The Vander Pol family prefers memorials be directed to the Good Samaritan Home of George, IA. Nelvina Vander Pol was born to Henry and Wilhelmina (Cleveringa) Langstraat on October 12, 1924 at Carmel, Iowa. Nelvina attended country school in the Carmel area through the 8th grade. As a young woman, she worked at Roelofs Store in Sioux Center. On October 8, 1964, she married Marion L. Vander Pol. Following their marriage, Nelvina cared for their family and did sewing for others. She later worked for a time at SiouxPreme Egg Processing. After retiring, she and Marion wintered for many years in Texas. Her free time was filled with sewing, crocheting and craft projects. Nelvina loved to play cards and was an avid reader. She is survived by seven children: Carol and John Huigens of Sioux City, Michael Vander Pol of Rifle, CO, Sandra Snow of Rome, NY, Nancy and Randy Riemersma of Willmar, MN, Vicki and Joseph Ranschau of Rock Valley, Tamara and Justin Cooper of Sioux City and Elwin Langstraat; 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Henrietta Farmer of Brunsville, IA along with numerous nieces and nephews. Nelvina was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Marion Vander Pol; her parents; three brothers: Clarence, Fred and Bill Langstraat and two sisters: Tracy Niemeyer and Edna Schelling.
