Lester Brommer, 90, of Sioux Center, IA died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the Royale Meadows Care Center of Sioux Center. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Saturday at 10AM at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11AM at Central Reformed Church with Rev. R. Van Rathbun officiating. The Brommer family prefers memorials to Central Reformed Church or Boy Scouts of America Troop 211. Lester Brommer was born May 8, 1922 to James and Jennie Brommer in Sioux Center, Iowa. He graduated from Sioux Center Community High School. Lester served his country in the United States Army Air Corp. from 1943 - 1946. While Lester was stationed at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, New Mexico, he married Marion Tronnes on July 14, 1945. Following Lester's honorable discharge the couple made their home in Sioux Center where Lester joined the family business, Brommer Truck Line. Lester was on the Sioux Center Fire Department for 50 years and was active with the American Legion Post and VFW Post. He was a longtime member of the Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center. In his free time, Lester enjoyed taking trips in his motor home, and camping and fishing with his family. He is survived by six children: Leslie (Joyce Reynolds) Brommer of Sioux Center, Rick (Sharon Dibbet) Brommer of Rapid City, SD, Mary Dell Brommer of Sioux Center, Darcy Helwig of Sioux Center, Mike (Kim Van Zee) Brommer of Norfolk, NE and Shelly (Gary) Sandbulte of Carmel; daughter-in-law, Erin Herringa and her husband Dave of Sumas, WA; his 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Don and Anne Brommer of Sioux Center, Jim and Penny Brommer of Bend OR; sister, Thelma Madsen of Okoboji; brother-in-law, Ken File of Cherokee, IA; two step-sisters: Lois Ford of Phoenix, AZ, Angie Elgersma of Sanborn, IA and step-brother, Al Heemstra of Sioux Center as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Lester is preceded in death by his wife Marion; two sons: Brad and Robbie Brommer; a granddaughter, Sarah Sandbulte; his father, James Brommer; mother and step-father, Jennie and Henry Heemstra; parents-in-law, Boyd and Helen Tronnes; sister-in-law, Byrla File; brothers-in-law, Dick Tronnes and Bud Madsen.
