Tom Wee, 56, of Sioux Center, IA, formerly of Estherville, IA, died Friday, May 18, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. A visitation with the family present will be held Tuesday from 10 -11AM at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00AM at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Hope Haven Chaplin Dan De Vries officiating. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 3:00PM at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville, IA. Thomas Glen Wee was a caring, fun-loving person who loved a good laugh and looked for any opportunity to tease. Tom was born in Estherville, Iowa on August 8, 1955 to Merlyn and Arlene (Walz) Wee. He lived with his family in Estherville until the age of twelve when he became a resident of the State Hospital School at Woodward, Iowa. In 1977, he returned to northwest Iowa where he lived and worked at Village Northwest in Sheldon. Following his stay in Sheldon, Tom moved to Hope Haven's Westview Homes in Rock Valley. In 2002, Tom moved to Sioux Center, where he lived in a Hope Haven group home. Over the years Tom participated in Special Olympics; he received gold and silver medals in ice skating competitions at the state level. Tom loved to listen to music and sing. Wheel of Fortune, along with old westerns were his favorite television shows. Family gatherings and staying connected to family were at the top of Tom's priority list. Tom worked at a Village Northwest Work Shop while living in Sheldon. Tom recently earned a ten year pin from Parkview Industries in Rock Valley. He attended First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center, where he participated in Friendship Bible Study. Tom is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Larry Wee and Lori Piatt-Wee of Omaha, NE; brother, Bill Wee of Sheldon, IA, and sister-in-law, Linda Wee of Parkersburg, IA; seven nieces and nephews: Kenny Wee of Lincoln, NE, Heather (Brad) Houchins of Kathleen, GA, Tiffani (JC) Casto, Creighton Wee and Christian Wee all of Omaha, NE, Jessica (Justin) Uhlenhopp of Parkersburg, IA, Koni Wee of Parkersburg, IA; seven great nieces and nephews: Carrick, Canon, and Colt Casto, all of Omaha, NE, Samantha and Rylee Houchins of Kathleen, GA, Zoey and Zion Uhlenhopp, of Parkersburg, IA. Tom is also survived by his Hope Haven friends and staff family including, Danny, Robin and Paul. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Merlyn and Arlene Wee and two brothers: Kenneth Wee and James Wee.
