Marilyn "Jo" Meendering, 82, of Sioux Center, Iowa died Thursday, January 26 at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-8PM with the family present from 2-4PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Monday at 10:15AM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A Memorial service will be held on Monday at 11AM in the Chapel of First Reformed Church with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating Marilyn Joan (Joey) Meendering was born on April 19, 1929 in Archer, Iowa to Joe and Mina (Rensink) Vanden Hull. She attended Archer Public school through the eighth grade. Marilyn was joined in marriage to John Meendering Jr. at the Middleburg, Free Grace Reformed Church on November 18, 1949. The couple farmed west of Middleburg for many years. She was a faithful helper on the farm and did house cleaning for the neighbors. She was a longtime member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. For many years she enjoyed singing in the church choir. Marilyn and John enjoyed fishing and camping and spent many summers at Lake George, in Northern Minnesota. In her free time she spent time reading Christian romance novels and working crossword puzzles. She also liked playing various card games and crocheting. She continued to live in her Sioux Center home until October, 2007, when she became a resident of the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Marlo and Harriet Vanden Hull of Kansas City, MO; sister-in-law, Elsie Meendering of Sioux Center as well as her nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Elaine Vanden Hull; a brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Norma Vanden Hull; a brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law.
