Larry Griffioen, 59, of Sioux Center, IA died Friday, October 7, 2011 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. A visitation will be held Monday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:30AM at New Life Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Jon Meredith officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. The Griffioen family prefers memorials to the Sioux County Sportsman's Club, 3618 470th St., Orange City, IA 51041. Larry A. Griffioen was born October 24, 1951 in Sheldon, Iowa. He was the son of Bill and Myrna (Kleinwolterink) Griffioen. He lived his youth in Sheldon attending Christian grade school and Hull Western Christian High School. After high school, Larry attended NCC in Sheldon for auto body. He was united in marriage to Vicki L. Reintsma of Sheldon on September 20, 1974. They lived in Sioux Center where Larry worked for and later owned and operated Sioux Body Shop and Towing Service. He was an active board member of the Sioux County Sportsman's Club and an avid supporter of SYC (Special Youth Challenge Ministries). He also served on the board of the Auto Body department at NCC and served as a member of the Northwest Iowa Auto Collision Association. Larry was a member of Sioux Center's car club and enjoyed building street rods and attending "Back to the Fifties" each year in Minneapolis, MN. Larry enjoyed camping with family and friends, was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting. He loved pulling his kids, grandkids and others behind the boat on tubes and swimming with the kids. Along with his six children, he adored his seven grandchildren. Larry took the ride of his life, to the arms of his Lord on October 7, 2011 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Vicki; children: Jamie and Sherry Griffioen, Scott and Tonya Griffioen all of Sioux Center, Tricia Griffioen, and Kimber Griffioen both of Le Mars and seven grandchildren: Shailynn, Jadin, Logan, Cailee, Ethan, Wyatt and Hannah; his father, Bill Griffioen of Sheldon; four sisters and brothers-in-law: Karen and Cliff Wynia of Sibley, Barb and Henry Fisher of Sibley, Ruth and Preston Hoekstra of Sheldon, Donna and Dan Schipull of Grain Valley, MO; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Ed and Arlene Griffioen of Sheldon and John and Sandy Griffioen of Sioux Center; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Shawnda and Rohn Rudtledge of Sioux Center, Steve and Lori Reintsma of Rock Valley and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrna Griffioen, father-in-law and mother-in-law Marv and Pat Reintsma and sister-in-law, Darla Reintsma.
