Greta De Zeeuw

Greta De Zeeuw, 79, of Sioux Center, IA died Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. A visitation will be held Friday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5:30-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Saturday at 10:15AM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11AM in the chapel of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. The De Zeeuw family prefers memorials to Crown Pointe Assisted Living Center, c/o the Sioux Center Community Hospital Foundation. Greta De Zeeuw was born September 7, 1932 at Maurice, Iowa to Dick and Gertrude (Schreur) De Jong. Greta was raised in Maurice where she attended Maurice community school through the 12th grade. After graduating, she attended National Business Training in Sioux City, Iowa. When she was young, Greta worked at several area homes and at the Royal Cafe in Le Mars, Iowa. She was the bookkeeper at the Sioux Center Community Hospital when it opened in 1951 until 1959. Greta married John De Zeeuw in the First Reformed Church, Maurice, Iowa on May 27, 1955. She attended Maurice Reformed Church from birth until the couple's marriage at which time she became a member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Over the years, she served on various women's circles. John and Greta had 3 children,Beverly Jean, Mark Bradley and Paul Alan. Some of Greta's hobbies were watching birds, putting together photo albums and studying family history. In her later years she enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles. Greta's greatest joy was spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, John E. De Zeeuw Sioux Center; two sons: Mark B. and Sandy De Zeeuw of Brandon, South Dakota and Paul A. and Sherri De Zeeuw of Sioux Center; son-in-law, Jan De Boom of Wauchula, FL; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Nelvina and Gerald Wissink, of Sioux Center; brother and sister-in-law, Milo and Neva De Jong, of Gifford, Washington; brother Nelson De Jong of Phoenix, Arizona; and sister-in-law, Leola De Jong of Maurice as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Greta was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Beverly; brother and sister-in-law, Pierce and Alma De Jong; brother, John De Jong and grandson Jacob De Zeeuw. The family thanks the staff at Crown Pointe for the excellent care given during Greta's stay.
