Alice Sneller was born January 9, 1915 in Sioux Center, Iowa to Ed G. and Minnie (Hoksbergen) Vermeer. She was raised on the family farm near Sioux Center and attended West Branch Rural School #4 through the eighth grade. After completing two years at Sioux Center High School, Alice was needed to assist her parents on the family farm. On January 3, 1940 Alice married Edwin J. Sneller at her parents' home. Following their marriage, Alice and Ed farmed northeast of Sioux Center and were blessed with four children. Alice was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center where she participated in Priscilla Circle and the quilting group. She was also active in the Welcome Homemakers Club. Alice took great pride in her children and grandchildren, and nurturing her family was her life's priority. She was a humble woman whose hands were never idle. Her kitchen was the heart of her home and there family and friends were always welcomed. As an enviable cook, she was known for her delectable pies, breads, and all baked goods. Alice was an avid gardener of both produce and beautiful flowers - the bounty of which she always shared. She enjoyed playing cards and games with friends and many quiet hours were spent crocheting, leaving a legacy of beautiful afghans for her children and grandchildren. Alice and Ed spent leisure time horseback riding with the Sioux Center Saddle Club and enjoyed camping, fishing and exploring the U.S. in their travel trailer. Even in her later years, Alice shared memories of these happy times with her children and grandchildren. Surviving Alice are her three children and their spouses: Kent and Becky Sneller of Sioux Center, Brenda and Dr. Bernard Mouw of Des Moines, IA, Paul and Patty Sneller of Sioux Center along with her seven grandchildren: Jill (John) Mouw-Roehrick, Dr. David (Neila) Sneller, Kristine (Dr. Matthew) Sneller-Berst, Dr. Matthew (Mary) Mouw, Mark (Daphne) Sneller, John (Anne) Sneller, Luke Sneller; ten great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Verlyn and Mary Vermeer of Rock Rapids. Alice is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Scott and Janice Sneller of Boyden and two sisters-in-law: Irene Sneller and LaVern Sneller both of Sioux Center. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, on November 16, 2002; an infant son, Kent Wilson; her parents; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Priscilla and Sam Postma, Esther and Lloyd Popma, Margaret and Adrian Scholten and brother and sister-in-law, Gerrit and Esther Vermeer. The Sneller family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staffs of Crown Pointe Assisted Living Center and Sioux Center Home Health and Hospice for the loving care they provided Alice during the years she spent with them.
