Henrietta Attema Olsen, 94, of Sioux Center, IA, formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, August 7, 2011 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Thursday at 9:30AM at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley,IA. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11AM in the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Mark Verbruggen officiating. Henrietta Attema Olsen was born December 5, 1916 to Peter and Tryntje (Schelling) Moerman in Sioux Center, Iowa. She attended Sioux Center Christian School through the eighth grade. On May 24, 1938, Henrietta was joined in marriage to Lane Attema in Sioux Center. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1940. While living in Sioux City the couple was blessed with four sons. Lane passed away from cancer on November 29, 1967. Henrietta married Henry Olsen on September 6, 1973. The couple split their time between a home in Sioux City and Obert, NE where Henry had a residence. Henry passed away May 11, 1981. Henrietta was a member of First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux City until it closed in 1998. Henrietta remained in Sioux City until the fall of 1998 when she moved back to Sioux Center and made her residence at the New Homestead. Upon moving to Sioux Center she transferred her church membership to First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. For the last few years, Henrietta has lived in Crown Pointe Assisted Living and Royale Meadows Care Center. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and Bible School. Henrietta was also active in the Ladies Aid. In her younger days, Henrietta enjoyed crocheting, gardening and reading. Some of her favorite times were reading Bible stories to her grandchildren. Family members all have enjoyed her many afghans. She spent her summers in her yard and canning many quarts of fruits and vegetables. She deeply loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her sons: Peter and Mary of Newcastle, NE; Leonard and Shirley of Burnsville, MN; Bob and Bev of Tyndall, SD and Bernard of Hinton, IA; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; two brothers: Peter Jr. and Catherine Moerman of Rock Valley, IA, Paul and Darlene Moerman of Plano, TX; two sisters: Nellie Rodibaugh of Grand Rapids, MI, Dena Cuperus of Jenison, MI; and a sister-in-law, Alice Moerman of Sioux Center. Also left to cherish her memory are members of the Olsen family, three step-children: Genia Riibe of Yankton, SD; Darlene Jensen of Quemado, NM and Gene and Sharon Olsen of Obert, NE as well as numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Henrietta is preceded in death by two husbands; her parents; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Cornelius and Marie Moerman, John and Shirley Moerman, Adrian and Eleanor Moerman; three brothers, William, Arie and Leonard Moerman; two sisters, Magdalena Fedders and her husband Dick Fedders, Katherine Moerman; three brothers-in-law: Jack Rodibaugh, William Rensink, Elmer Cuperus and a stepson, Dane Olsen.
