Marie Mouw

Marie Mouw, 89, of Sioux Center, IA died Friday, July 15, 2011 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. The Mouw family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-3:30PM in the Fireside Room at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held Monday at 11AM at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Arnold Punt officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. Alice Marie Mouw was born on January 22, 1922 to Noyce and Mattie Leigh Cates in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. She was raised in Roanoke Rapids and graduated 12th grade at Roanoke Rapids High School. On December 18, 1944, Marie married Vernon P. Mouw at NAS Chapel, Pensacola Beach, Florida. They lived in Norfolk, Virginia, where she worked at the NAS. From there they moved to Chicago Illinois, where she worked at the Board of Trade. They started their family and moved to Sioux Center, Iowa where Marie was a homemaker and mother. Marie attended Central Reformed Church where she served in a number of ways including Ladies Guild, Sunday School, and many other church work groups. Marie had many interests and hobbies including golfing with Vern and friends, playing bridge with friends, gardening and she also enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Above all Marie was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be dearly missed. Marie is survived by her husband, Vernon P. Mouw; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and James Smith of Chapel Hill, NC, son and daughter in law, Greg and Karen Mouw of Sioux Center; five grandchildren and spouses: Tim and Kristi Gesink, Kacey and Rusty Flannery, Jeremy and Jessica Gesink, Jennifer and James Bald, Ciara and Kyle Pratt; twelve great grandchildren: Shalee, Sydney, Nyiah, Taya and Makai Gesink; Ty, Ethan and Karson Gesink; Kaitlyn and Brooklyn Bald; Aidyn Mouw and Paityn Pratt; two sisters: Katie Williams of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Lola Boyd of Greensboro, NC. She is preceded in death by her parents, Noyce and Mattie Cates and two brothers-in-law: Francis Williams and Bill Boyd.
