Edna Den Herder

Edna Den Herder 90, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the Royale Meadows Care Center of Sioux Center. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8PM with the family present from 5-7PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service will be held Saturday at 10:15AM at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00AM at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. The Den Herder Family prefer memorials be directed to Atlas of Sioux Center or The Family Crisis Center of Sioux Center. Edna Gertrude Den Herder was born June 20, 1921 to "Doc" and Gertrude (Bekman) Smedley. She was raised in Alton, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. She also attended Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. On June 21, 1940, she married Gerald E. Den Herder. They farmed between Sioux Center and Hull until 1979 when they retired to Sioux Center. Gerald passed away in February of 2001. Edna was a member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center, Iowa. She loved going to Lydia Circle, going to quilters every Monday, watching the Gaithers on television, and spending Sunday dinners with her family. Edna lived in her own home until July of 2009, when she moved to Crown Pointe and then shortly to Royale Meadows in Sioux Center. Survivors are a daughter and husband, Karen and Erwin Van Beek of Sioux Center, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Dr. Jerry and Ronda Den Herder of Waterloo, Iowa, Paul and Ann Den Herder of Haslett, Michigan; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Jane Den Herder and a granddaughter, Katie Marie Den Herder.
