Cynthia Brantsen, 89, of Sioux Center, IA died Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A visitation will be held Sunday from 2-8PM, with the family present from 2-4PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A funeral service will be held Monday at 10:30AM at New Life Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Dan Kruse officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. The Brantsen family prefers memorials be directed to Sioux Center Community Home Health & Hospice. Cynthia Susanne Brantsen was born on October 2, 1921, to Cornelius and Magdalene (De Zeeuw) Den Hartog in Middleburg, Iowa. She was raised in Orange City, Iowa, and graduated from Northwestern Classical Academy in 1938. She was united in marriage to John F. Brantsen on May 16, 1941, in Orange City. Together they had two sons: Jeris Brantsen and wife Karen of Sioux Center and Loren Brantsen and wife Mary, also of Sioux Center. John passed away August 29, 1973. Cynthia faithfully served as a cook at Kinsey Elementary school for 28 years retiring in 1986. She found great enjoyment in the kids that she served over the years. Cynthia was a member of New Life Reformed Church and enjoyed traveling, hand work, quilting & crocheting. Along with her children; Cynthia is survived by four grandchildren: Kristi Brantsen of Sioux Falls, Jennifer and Kevin Kruse of Sioux Falls, John and Allison Brantsen of Sioux Center and Susanne and Cary Bandstra of Pella; seven great-grandchildren: Maysa Kruse, Case Brantsen, Caleb Brantsen, Adison Brantsen, Blake Bandstra, Blair Bandstra, Dava Bandstra; her brother, Paul Den Hartog and his wife Joan of Orange City and a sister Joyce Kooy and her husband Wayne of Allegan, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
