Helen Weyen, 69, of Sioux Center, IA died Friday, April 22, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. A visitation will be held Monday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Tuesday at 9:30AM at the Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow the prayer service in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11AM at the First Baptist Church of Hawarden, IA with Rev. Stuart Schreur officiating. The Weyen family prefer memorials be directed to the First Baptist Church of Hawarden. Helen "Babe" Weyen was the daughter of Lloyd and Ruby (Johnson) Strong. She was born October 16, 1941, in Hawarden, Iowa. She graduated from West Sioux Community School. On December 19, 1958 she married Raymond Richard Weyen. They were blessed with four children. In 1962, they made their home in Sioux Center, Iowa. Up until Helen's retirement she spent her days working at Groschopp for 34 years. Family was an important part of Helen's life, especially being a grandma and great grandmother. Each one of them brought so much joy to her life. Helen had many talents and gifts, one of which included baking. She was especially known for "grandma's buns", bars and her Christmas goodies. She also enjoyed reading, knitting and being with her husband. Helen had such a young sense of humor, would try anything once, and had a smile that can never be forgotten. Helen fought a short battle with leukemia; she went to be with her Jesus on April 22, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years, Ray Weyen of Sioux Center; four children: Rick Weyen of Hudson, SD; Scott Weyen of Sioux Center; Susie Carroll and her husband, Robert of Sioux Center; Mary Slothouber and her husband, Brian of Sioux Center; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Helen is also survived by two brothers and sisters in-law: Lloyd "Sonny" and Betty Strong, Jon and Vicki Strong all of Hawarden; a sister, Betsy Anderson of Hawarden, as well as, several nieces and nephews. She will be joined in her heavenly home by her parents; one sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Corky Draayer; brother-in-law, Marty Anderson and an infant grandson, Michael Weyen.
