Myna De Stigter, 86, of Sioux Center died Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. Visitation will be held Monday January 3, 2011 from 4-8PM with the family present from 5:30PM -7:30PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Tuesday at 10:00AM at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday at 11AM at First Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Carl Klompien officiating. The De Stigter family prefers memorials to Sioux Center Christian Schools or Western Christian High School. Myna De Stigter was born March 9, 1924 to Henry P. and Winnie (Van Maanen) Vis south of Hull, Iowa. She attended Perkins Christian School for seven years before graduating from Hull Christian School. On May 19, 1948, Myna was joined in marriage to Peter De Stigter in Hull. Myna was a longtime member of First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. She was a part of the Golden Hour women's group. Her family remembers her as one of the first to start making pig-in-a-blanket. Myna enjoyed crocheting, baking and canning the many items from her garden. Left to cherish her memory are seven children and their spouses: Harlan and Jolene De Stigter of Orange City; Ronald De Stigter of Canton, SD; Winette and John Mc Ewen of Smithers, British Columbia; Jerome De Stigter of Sioux Center; Berwyn and Beth De Stigter of Lennox, SD; Douglas and Lorie De Stigter of Sioux Center and Beverly and Robin Miller of Gilbert, AZ; sixteen grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Evelyn Vis of Sioux Center; sister-in-law, Louise Vis of Rock Rapids; brother-in-law, Bernard Stuit of Ripon, CA. Also left to cherish her memory are: brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Leonard and Ella De Stigter of Sioux Center, Case and Penny De Stigter of Livonia, MI, sisters-in-law: Cecilia De Stigter of Escondido, CA, Florence Kalsbeek of Orange City and Elaine De Stigter of Grand Rapids, MI; Lucille Poel and her husband Norm of Grand Rapids, Ml as well as numerous nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter De Stigter; her parents; one great-grandchild, Kelcee Renae De Stigter; two brothers: Peter Vis and Bert Vis and a sister Hendrene Stuit.
