Harriet H. Van Voorst, 95, of Sioux Center, IA passed into glory Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the Royale Meadows Care Center of Sioux Center. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4-8PM with the family present from 6-8PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Wednesday at 10AM at Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11AM at Bethel Christian Reformed Church with Rev. John Lee and Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. The Van Voorst Family prefers memorials to Bethel Christian Reformed Church Building Fund. Harriet Helen Van Voorst, daughter of William and Hattie (Hooyer) Broek was born at the family farm near Sioux Center on July 12, 1915. She attended country school through the eighth grade. On February 23, 1938, Harriet was joined in marriage to John B. Van Voorst in the Broek family home. After their marriage the couple began farming northeast of Sioux Center. They farmed together for nearly 70 years. John passed away January 9, 2008. Harriet was a lifetime member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. She served as a Sunday school teacher, was a charter member of the Sunshine Circle and seldom missed Missionary Union Meetings. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, flowers, gardening and doing a daily cross-word puzzle. She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Harriet is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Rob and Carol Van Voorst, Harlan G. and Linda Van Voorst and Paul and Judy Van Voorst all of Sioux Center; daughter and son-in-law, Helma and Gerrit Davelaar of Inwood; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Anna Mae Broek of Sioux Center; sister, Margaret Feekes of Sioux Center; sisters-in-law, Evadean Broek, June Broek and Geraldine Van Voorst all of Sioux Center and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, John B. Van Voorst; her parents; son-in-law, Davis Tebbens; sister, Margaret in childhood; brothers: David, Marion, Albert and John W. Broek; sisters-in-law, Harriet Broek, Noreen Broek and Hermina Van Voorst; brothers-in-law, Arnold Feekes, Richard B. Van Voorst, Theodore Van Voorst.
