Gladys Schut

Gladys Schut, 83, of Sioux Center, IA died Monday, June 14, 2010 at Royale Meadows Care Center of Sioux Center. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-7PM with the family present from 5-7PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Thursday at 9:15AM at New Life Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held at 10:00AM at New Life Reformed Church with Rev. Carl Boersma officiating. The Schut family prefer memorials be directed to Royale Meadows Care Center c/o Sioux Center Community Hospital Foundation. Gladys Muriel Schut was born February 17, 1927 to William S. and Johanna (Kempers) Beernink on a farm west of Sioux Center, Iowa. She attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Sioux Center High School with the Class of 1944. Gladys went on to earn her normal training certificate and taught country school at Center No. 4 for two years. On January 31, 1947 she was united in marriage to Peter A. Schut. The couple settled on a farm two miles east of Sioux Center. In 1975, they moved to their house in town. Later in life Gladys worked for five years as a cook for the Dinner Date program in Sioux Center. Over the years she taught Sunday school, Catechism and assisted with Vacation Bible School. For the last several years as a member of New Life Reformed Church, she attended Morning Glory Circle on Monday mornings. Gladys also enjoyed quilting at churchmaking quilts for many organizations. Gladys is survived by her husband of 63 years, Pete Schut of Sioux Center; her daughter and son-in-law: Beverly and Ken Boeve of Hull; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Bev Schut of Sioux Center along with her six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Gladys is also survived by brother and sister-in-law, Donald and June Beernink of Omaha, NE; brother, Vernon Beernink and his friend Barb Huygens of Sioux Center; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glen and Glenda Schut of Rapid City, SD; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Shirley and Glen Kuiper of Ames, IA and numerous nieces and nephews. Gladys loved going for rides with Pete and entertaining her grandchildren and great grandchildren; with whom her chocolate chip cookies were always a hit. Gladys will be remembered as a faithful servant of our Lord God and devoted prayer warrior for her family and friends.
