Joyce Ver Mulm, 59, of Sioux Center, IA died Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. A visitation with family present will be held Sunday at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center from 1-3:30PM. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Monday at 10AM at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held Monday at 11:00AM at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center, with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. In lieu of flowers the Ver Mulm family prefers memorials be directed to First Reformed Church Sight and Sound Ministry Fund. Joyce Ann Ver Mulm was born December 10, 1950, to Eilert and Pearl (Maliepaard) Bloemendaal at Le Mars, Iowa. She graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa. Joyce later attended Western Iowa Tech Community College where she received her LPN degree. Joyce married Robert L. Ver Mulm on June 26, 1970 in Sioux Center, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sioux Center where Joyce worked at various jobs over the years including: Sioux Center Community Schools, First Reformed Church and Kosgrove Estates. Her most recent employment was at Vet Pharm, Inc. Joyce was a longtime member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and going on many special "field trips" with her beloved husband. Joyce remained strong and courageous during her 5 1/2 year battle with cancer. Cancer was part of her life, but she never let it control her life. Survivors include her husband of nearly 40 years, Robert L. Ver Mulm; her four children and their families: JoAnn and Mark Roos and their children: Christian, Conner and Colby of Sioux City, IA; Laura and Kirk Dunlavey and their children Ana and Isaac of Jackson, MN; Brenda and Brent Downs and their children Brendan, Darien, Nykolas and Raia of Sioux Center; Robert A. and Jodi Ver Mulm and their children Kyle, RJ and Bailey of Hawarden, IA; her mother, Pearl Bloemendaal; three sisters and their spouses: Irene and Gerrit Van Veldhuizen, Harriet and Cornie Van Beek, Ruth and Pete Vande Stroet; and brother, Ken Bloemendaal. Also left to cherish her memory are her mother-in-law: Johanna Ver Mulm; three brothers-in-law and their spouses: Donald and Nancy Ver Mulm, Douglas and Lisa Ver Mulm, and Roger and Jill Ver Mulm; three sisters-in-law: Donna Reekers, Ruth Ver Mulm, and Delores and her husband Steve Stratmeyer, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Eilert Bloemendaal and father-in-law, Robert Ver Mulm.
