Wallace Muilenburg, 85, of Sioux Center, IA died Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Royale Meadows Care Center. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Thursday at 9:30AM at the Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow the prayer service in Sherman Township Cemetery of rural Maurice. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11:00AM at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center, with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. The Muilenburg family prefers memorials to CHEARS Home Health and Hospice or the Sight & Sound Ministry of First Reformed Church. Wallace Gordon Muilenburg was born July 26, 1924 to Harry and Anna (De Jong) Muilenburg near Maurice, Iowa. He graduated from Maurice Public School in 1941. He served his country from 1945-46 in the Army Quartermasters division in Japan. On September 1, 1948, Wallace married Henrietta Maassen in a double wedding ceremony with his sister, Ladene and Sentner Altena at the Maurice Reformed Church. The couple made their home on the family farm near Maurice. In 1984, they moved to Sioux Center. Wally was a faithful member of the Maurice Reformed Church for many years before becoming a member of Sioux Center First Reformed Church. After moving to town, Wally and Henrietta did volunteer work in Brewton, Alabama, the Dominican Republic, Peurto Escandido, Mexico and Mescalero, New Mexico. The last 15 years, they enjoyed their winters in Mesa, Arizona. July 2006, Wally survived cardiac arrest and the Lord miraculously restored him. He loved to sing and sang many solos and in choirs both in Sioux Center and in Arizona. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards and traveling. Wally is survived by his wife of 61 years, Henrietta and his three children: Glen Muilenburg and friend, Nicolette Smith of Spokane WA, Barb and Steven Hanas of De Witt, Iowa, Jerry and Donna (De Groot) Muilenburg of Maurice; eight grandchildren: Chad and Erin Muilenburg and their children: Zachary, Colin and Joshua of Carmichael, CA, Erika (Muilenburg) Hamilton and her son, Ian of Metoluis, OR, Derrick and Vanessa Muilenburg of Wooster, OH, Shauna and TJ Korver of Orange City, Tonya and Chris Huenink of Ames, IA, Erin Hanas and Mark Resnick of Durham, NC, Peter and Julia Hansen and their daughter, Kate of Syracuse, UT; four sisters: Joyce Booher of Batavia, NY, Lois and Peter De Jong of Alton, IA, Ladene and Sentner Altena of Rogers, AR, Harriet and Roger Harmelink of Newton, IA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Lyndsey Hanas and brothers-in-law, Al Bender and Claire Booher.
