Norman Van Steenwyk, 83, of Sioux Center, IA died Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, IA. A funeral service will be held Friday at 3PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. Visitation with the family present will be held on Friday from 2:30PM until service time. Norman Glenn Van Steenwyk was born June 29, 1926 to Jacob W. and Ida (Van Ek) Van Steenwyk in Sioux Center. He attended Sioux Center public schools. He later attended Elgin Watch College in Elgin, Illinois. Norm served his country in the United States Army. He was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska for two years. He later returned to Sioux Center and worked at Van's Jewelry and was talented watchmaker. He also worked for a time at Northside Auto Body and the Sioux Center Post Office. Norm faithfully cared for his parents for many years. He was a member of Central Reformed Church and the Doornink-Brunsting Post 199 American Legion . Norm enjoyed working in his yard, planting trees and flowers. He also enjoyed feeding birds and squirrels. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Martha and Kenneth R. Kwikkel of Sioux Center; a niece and her husband, Miriam and Ron Muth of Ireton; and a nephew, Kenneth J. Kwikkel of Sioux Center. Norm is preceded in death by his parents and a sister and brother-in-law, Elma and Wesley Dykstra.
